PAST EVENTS
Here on Earth, Wisconsin
Public Radio (March 2011) I had the pleasure of joining my friend Ann Le (author of The Little Saigon Cookbook) for an hour-long interview and call-in program featuring Communion at Here on Earth’s Food Fridays on Wisconsin Public Radio. The show can be heard free on the station’s website or through iTunes. Reading and Slide Show at Skylight Books (November 2010)
For our final event of 2010, more than 50 people came to Skylight Books in Los Angeles for a reading, slide show, and tasting of dishes from the book. Along with family and friends, we were joined by members of Foodie Connection, whose enthusiasm added to the festive mood of the night. People lingered to buy copies of Communion, nibble on Julie's banana flower salad and my Vietnamese mom’s spring rolls, mingle, and dine from the Mandoline Grill food truck, which joined us again after such great success at the Traveler’s Bookcase book launch. To read more about the event and for recipes from the book, go to my food blog, Serve It Forth.

BrookeWorms Book Club (November 2010)
On November 8, I joined the BrookeWorms Book Club for a discussion about Communion. It was a terrific night of questions, answers, spring roll making, and nibbling on lemongrass chicken and banana flower salad. To read about the event---and for the recipe for banana flower salad---go to my food blog, Serve It Forth.

Communion Pacific Northwest book tour (September 2010)
In September 2010, Julie and I headed to the Pacific Northwest for a three-store reading tour for Communion. Overall, more than 130 people came out to listen, watch (a slide show from the book), buy, and in some cases, nibble on fresh spring rolls. Many thanks to the Elliott Bay Book Company (Seattle, WA; 9/19), Village Books (Bellingham, WA; 9/20), and Broadway Books (Portland, OR; 9/22) for being such generous hosts. Communion book launch party (July 2010)
On Wednesday, July 14, 2010, we celebrated the publication of Communion at Traveler's Bookcase in Los Angeles (8375 West Third Street). Julie and I spoke briefly and answered a few questions while guests nibbled on flavors from the book: clay pot chicken and banana flower salad, as well as grilled lemongrass pork and chicken. Along with family, friends, and store customers, guests included Pulitzer Prize winning Vietnam War photographer, Nick Ut. The party was a hit for many reasons, including the Mandoline Grill food truck parked out front, tempting everyone with delicious Vietnamese dishes well into the night. To read more about the party, go to my blog posting on Serve It Forth. You can also find a lovely description of the night at Mondette.
