Photography by Julie Fay Ashborn

Featuring more than fifty photographs from our five-week culinary trip through Vietnam, Communion showcases Julie's ability to capture the spirit of Vietnam through its food. As simple as two women laughing in the Dalat market or a Hanoi street vendor walking away, my favorites are her documentary-style pictures in which composition of the image evokes the mood of the moment.

With three trips to Vietnam under her belt, Julie’s photographs in To Vietnam With Love range from the informative to the playful (see the woman with a crab at the bottom of this page). She has an eye for the details that make Vietnam one of the most exciting places to visit in the world.

Partnering with our good friend Ann Le, Julie shot the The Little Saigon Cookbook for Globe Pequot Press in the Little Saigon community in Orange County, California. Check out my favorite picture: the steamy kitchen black-and-white on page 27.

Julie's first book, To Asia With Love shows that she is meant to photograph Southeast Asia. This book displays her particular gift for capturing intoxicating serenity of the region.
